Bill's been in Wellington over the weekend and I've been staying at the YHA Central in Sydney. First they had lost my booking at YHA Railway Square. The rain was pissing down. They had two beds left at Central so I had to hurry. It turned out to be a nice place. A bed in a six bed female dorm is $35 if you have a YHA membership card, which I do.
Billy was flying home from Wellington yesterday about the same time as I was flying out to Auckland.
"What time is your flight?"
"18:50. I was just about to send you the exact same text!"
"Great minds think alike. Hey. Let's get togethet at the airport for one last beer then!"
I double checked my itinary. There was enough time. All I had to do was to get to the airport a little earlier but that was just fine. I had no other plans anyway as I had to check out from my hostel by 10.
"Sure!"
My last night out was definately a big one and we didn't get in sooner than 7am. But I was fine. Tell you more about the last night out later.
As I was checking in at the airport yesterday the flight attendant kindly reminded me of that my flight was for Saturday the 2nd and not yesterday! I had totally mixed up the dates! The only tickets they had to offer me was business class and they were $1500 so I had to re-book it for today (4th) and I'm flying in the same time, landing in Auckland by 23:55.
As my flight to Fiji tomorrow is at 2pm it doesn't give me much time. I am just glad that I was possible to arrange a new ticket at "only" $150. It's still a lot of money for a ticket I thought I already had... I didn't know if I should laugh or cry and I was just feeling sorry for myself being such a loser.
"Do people do this or is it just me"
"No no. It happens."
"Oh. Ok. I think my brain is on holiday too. I find it hard just to decide what to eat sometimes."
"Ha ha. So you're ticket will be $150. It could be $250 but I gave you a discount."
"Thank you ma'am"
I spent some time texting Chris and Ken telling them about how stupid I was for not knowing what date it was. They were both having a laugh at me and thought I was joking.
Then I got myself together and found out where to meet Bill and how to tell hom I wanted to stay at his place over the night, if that was ok?
I made a sign that said "KA KAAAAW" and waited. I waited for an hour and a half and then I checked my inbox. Aha. Air New Zealand and not Qantas. Ok. Definately no big thoughts in my head today. I went to Air New Zealand's arrivers and got there just in time.
-Ka kaaaw!
-Ka kaaaaw!
We small talked and Bill told me about his Rugby festival weekend over a beer.
-So anyway. My flight was yesterday. Not today.
-No shit?
-Yes shit.
-So. What are we doing here? Let's go to the Steyne and grab a beer there instead. But it's gonna have to be an eary night.
-Yes. Thank you. And some food. I'm hungry.
-And some food. Ok. Ooops.
-What?
-I just accidently put too much beer in my mouth.
-Haha. I missed you.
-Yeah yeah. I missed you too. This is ending up on your blog, isn't it?
-I'm pretty sure of it.

So I was lucky it wasn't one of my other flights that I missed. A long one with connecting flights. And I was lucky I had already made plans to meet someone at the airport.
I'm now getting ready once again to leave Sydney. I'm never getting able to leave, it seems. I will fly in to Auckland around midnight and leave again for Fiji tomorrow by noon.
So I really don't know. Maybe I will have to stay at the airport? I would of course really much want to see my cousins and all again and I think I still have some stuff there. I don't think tomorrow will be a big issue, there must be airport shuttles for me to catch, right? I will try to find out more about them.

I love your Airport bill narrative. And i'm still laughing about you missing the flight... you'll laugh about it too one day.

Anna: I'm already laughing. What else can I do?
